But of course, since this is an in depth Udemy Affiliate Program Review, we will not leave out the small details that may come important later on.

So, how exactly does Udemy Affiliate Program work? How can you make money with Udemy Affiliate Program?
With all those questions your head, I’m sure you’re eager to find out the answers. Well, the basic idea of affiliate marketing is simple on the surface.
Choose a course that you would like to promote on your website or personal pages, convert your audience into buyers and then earn money from the commission.
However, it is the process that can be tricky – and how you can make sales in the first place.
That’s where the challenge begins. Udemy Affiliate Program works pretty much like every other affiliate program out there.
Though, they may have a few differences when it comes to their rewarding system and how to become qualified and such.
We’ll get more into the payment process and how much you can earn as you read on. For now, let’s learn more about: What Is Udemy Affiliate Program?
Founders of Udemy Affiliate Program
We can learn more about a product or a business by looking into the minds behind it. So, I looked into the founders.
I wanted to know, What Is Udemy Affiliate Program for them?
What was the idea or the goal? What pushed them into creating this massive online learning academy that became widely successful?
Curious as I am, I looked for the answers for myself then I learned about Eren Bali, Gagan Biyani, and Oktay Caglar.
These three people are the geniuses behind Udemy that they launched in 2010. So, who are these people?
History of Udemy
Eren Bali is the one that started it all in 2007 when he created a software for a live virtual classroom during his stay in Turkey.
Seeing the opportunities that his software could bring, Bali looked for a way to make it bigger and he did so by starting his own company.
That is when he met the other two founders, Gagan Biyani and Oktay Caglar.
Together, they officially launched Udemy in the early 2010. However, since they were new and originated from a small, unknown company, things were rough.
According to Gagan Biyani, they were rejected by investors at least 30 times because most of them were hardly impressed by the ideology of Udemy.
Despite the rejections, the trio did not give up. They knew that this product will become big and successful.
Therefore, they pushed it and made several improvements and a couple of changes, which caused them to relaunch the program in May 2010, calling it “Udemy – The Academy of You”
Following this, a huge number of teachers created courses and their user count was continuously growing in just a few months.
It was a huge progress – and they knew they were headed towards bigger success.
This shows us that the geniuses behind this learning place are hardworking people. They will push through any failure to reach their success.
With their success, they are opening their doors to affiliates.
Now, what is Udemy Affiliate Program? With the background of these founders, will affiliates find success in it too just like them?
How To Become A Udemy Affiliate?
If you’re getting more and more interested about becoming a Udemy Affiliate, then I also got you covered.
Unlike other affiliate programs, joining Udemy Affiliate Program isn’t as complicated as you would think.
To become a Udemy affiliate, you can easily follow the instructions on their official webpage and you can also click on the blue text to take you there.
It’s pretty simple and the instructions are clear. Just follow the link, read some of the highlights on the page and then click on “Join Now” .
Once you click on that, it will take you to the registration page. You only need to fill up the sign up form and read everything carefully.
I suggest reading the terms and agreement carefully and not just click “I agree” on everything, to make sure you’re not missing out on any vital information.
I did a quick scan through the terms and agreements and depending on where you live or your nationality, you may be subject to different rules and conditions because of the country.
For example, if you are European then you will be consenting to agree to the laws of the United Kingdom (“RM Europe”) and you will be deemed to be a “European Region Publisher.”
And for those in the Asian region you will be under “RM Australia” and deemed as an “Asian Region Publisher”.
You must also honor the Californian Privacy Law. Basic things like that must be properly acknowledged so you won’t get in any trouble by mistake.
Udemy Affiliate Program Qualifications
But what is Udemy Affiliate Program and who is it for? Who can qualify? Surely, not JUST anyone can join, right? It is FREE to join, but you can only join under specific conditions.
There are requirements or qualifications that you must meet. No worries, if you are already an experienced affiliate marketer, this shouldn’t be much of a problem to you.
The basic requirements are the following according to their affiliate support FAQ page.
- Have an established audience
- Must own a site or page with consistent traffic
- A compatible site theme
- Compatible site content
- Brand alignment
Udemy is looking for affiliates that already has followers that could be interested in their learning courses, after all, that’s how they’ll make money and how you’ll get paid.
From the official FAQ page:
“Whether it is an email list, social media following or fanbase, we look to work with a partner that has already built an engaged audience with consistent traffic and followers.
Your website traffic needs to be at least 1,000 monthly visitors in the last 3 months. Your social media pages must have at least 1,000 followers.”
Along with an established audience, you must also have consistent traffic which is already mentioned above.
Udemy verifies your traffic using similarweb.com and other search engines to learn about the traffic on your website.
To become an affiliate, owning a website or a social media account with follower engagement is a MUST.
From their page they state: “When applying, please make sure you list all websites or online channels you will use to promote our products in the ‘Description’ section of our application.”
They will also look at your site theme and content to make sure everything is aligned and compatible with their wide range of courses.
This is to simply make sure that everything appeals to your audience.
Imagine promoting Udemy on a site that’s irrelevant to learning – what would your audience think of Udemy and YOU?
It would create a negative impact for both sides, so best to make sure everything is aligned. You MUST have a consistent site content for this to be verified as well.
Throughout your application, Udemy may ask you for additional information regarding several details to make sure you are fit to be their affiliate.
At the moment, Udemy also does NOT welcome any sites that ONLY talk or discuss about Udemy, as well as paid advertising affiliates – this is according to the official FAQ page.

Is Udemy Affiliate Program Worth Your Time?
When I first heard about Udemy Affiliate Program, I wondered if it was worth my time. Well, is it?
As an established affiliate marketer myself, there are varying reasons why it would not be worth it for ME, but for you, it might mean differently.
Ask yourself: What Is Udemy Affiliate Program , Is Udemy Affiliate Program Worth It?
If you already have a stable website or a social media page with enough traffic, it might be worth a shot for you.
Udemy Affiliate Program can be a good place to start for not-so-serious affiliate marketers. Say, you might be a hobbyist or have spare time in your website.
You can try promoting Udemy Affiliate Courses once in a while.
But in affiliate marketing, the passionately driven ones become the most successful. Why is Udemy Affiliate Program NOT worth it for passionate affiliates?
In this Udemy Affiliate Program Review, I discovered that Udemy has changed its ways. From a promising affiliate program, it has downgraded itself.
The income won’t be as much, but we’ll talk about the income details later on and that will be mentioned along with the other disadvantages of this program.
Basically, the program is not as beneficial as it seems to be for serious affiliates.
You’ll learn why as you read about the disadvantages of this program. For now, let me answer if this program is legitimate or not.
Is Udemy Affiliate Program A Scam?
So, what is Udemy Affiliate Program? Is it legitimate? Yes – Udemy is a legitimate company and their affiliate program is legitimate too.
It’s simply another way for them to earn more sales – and you simply get a small portion of what they earn through commissions.
Udemy Affiliate Program is NOT a scam and you CAN make money with it as its affiliate.
Well, to be completely transparent with you. I am not a Udemy Affiliate nor am I one of their instructors. Furthermore, I do not endorse Udemy or any Udemy courses in any way.
I have spent a good amount of time researching the website, reading testimonials, and studying information on the Internet to get to the bottom of what Udemy really does for affiliates. This is because programs just like this have burned me in the past, and I want to keep others from going down the same path I did. 5 Reasons To Try Udemy Affiliate Program (Advantages)
What is Udemy Affiliate Program and what’s good about it? Now if you are looking for reasons why this program may be worth it, let me list down the things I liked about Udemy Affiliate Program.
Wide range of products/courses
What makes Udemy easier compared to other affiliate program is its flexibility.
It has over 100,000+ courses that falls under varying categories. You’ll find everything you need.
With the rise in popularity for online learning, Udemy becomes bigger and bigger in the online market.
This pushes them to keep producing a wide range of courses that all students, any student, can rely on.
As an affiliate, this will make it easier for YOU to find something that fits your site or your social media identity.
It’s how you can easily make sales too.
Easy to join and start promoting
Joining is easy, the requirements are not too much if you really want to be into affiliate marketing.
You only need to fill up the form at the sign up page, but the only downside of this is that it might take 3-4 business days to get approved.
Reliable support from affiliate managers
What’s great with Udemy is that they’ll give you affiliate managers too that you can ask for assistance.
Promotional assets and tools
Udemy will also give you access to their promotional assets and tools, plus, give you discount codes sometimes. Deep linking is also available.
Chance to have fun and get paid for every sale
If you love learning and Udemy, you will have fun joining this program while you get paid for every sale you make. It’s a win-win for you.
5 Reasons To Avoid Udemy Affiliate Program (Disadvantages)
But what is Udemy Affiliate Program truly about and what are its “cons”? Here are the things that would make this program not worth it for most affiliates.
7 Day Cookies
From the 90 to 30 days conversion period, Udemy Affiliate Program now only allows you SEVEN DAYS to promote and sell a course.
This means, even if somebody becomes interested in the course but does not buy it, you won’t get anything. If they happen to buy the course but it’s past seven days, then you get NOTHING.
The biggest downfall from this, is you could spend hours and put in extra effort promoting a product but the affiliate link expires within a week.
Which means, all your efforts become null and void after a week – it’s not set out for long-term sales, so what is the point if it’s not a sure sale?
Low Commission Rate (10-15%)
Whichever course you sell, the commission rate is capped at 10 to 15%. The rating used to be at 40 to 50% and that is a HUGE difference.
MOST courses you’ll find at Udemy are at affordable prices. What’s worse? They often offer discounts or promotional sales.
Which means, if you sell a course worth $99 PLUS discounts, let’s say, 15% off, the price drops at $84.15!
You only get 10-15% commission from $84.15 and that is around = $12.62
Getting paid ONLY $12.62 from 15% commission rate every sale is such a small amount.
The rate is so low, you’ll need to make a LOT of sales if you want to earn at least $100 and you have to do that within 7 days or else, you’ll get nothing at all.
Discount Based Market
The fact that Udemy always offered discounts and launched sale promotional events changed the nature of their market.
This made Udemy users get used to ONLY buying during sales – so trying to promote courses during a non-promotional period can be challenging.
Most Udemy users will only buy a course if it’s on sale which takes us back to disadvantages no.1 and 2.
Average Landing Pages
This might be subjective, but personally, the landing pages seem to be lacking in details. I’ve clicked on Udemy affiliate links myself and most of them are confusing.
What did I just land on? Is this really a course? Sometimes, it would even give you the impression that you landed on a fake site that could be a scam.
While this can be easily improved, it has been a long term issue with Udemy Affiliate Program’s landing pages. Not so appealing for leads.
Demands High Traffic
To ensure there WILL be income whether there is a promo or not, you must secure high traffic at all times. Otherwise, you’ll hardly make any sales if there are no discounts available.
If you have consistent, engaging traffic for 7 days, then you can get some sales in.
But if NOT, then all your efforts will go to waste after 7 days because of the number one disadvantage of this program.
To most people, this seems absolutely draining to keep up with.
Final Thoughts On Udemy Affiliate Program
We’ve covered everything you should know in this Udemy Affiliate Program Review – so here are my final thoughts on What Is Udemy Affiliate Program.
In my opinion, Udemy Affiliate Program’s low commission rate can be sufficient to some. But in the world of affiliate marketing, their terms are just too critical for affiliates.
You can’t easily convert leads to consumers within 7 days. Even if you do, you usually only get a very small amount.
It can be a waste of time, effort, and investment if you mistakenly promote a course that no one would be interested in. After 7 days, you make no profit and you lost your valuable time instead.
Can you make money with Udemy Affiliate program? Yes – but not much unless you’re in luck and always have consistent traffic.
Is Udemy Affiliate Program Worth It? No, if you’re looking to make bigger, real money through affiliate marketing.
Yes, if you are only “getting started” and want a little “experience” but it’s a risk for you to take.
A Better Alternative To Make Money From Home Through Affiliate Marketing
If you’re having hesitations, then my suggestion is to settle for a secured option. You do not have to worry about a 7 day cookie policy or deal with low commission rates.
Interested? Just like what Udemy offers, with my affiliate program, you can find and choose your own product to promote.
BUT you earn more without risking too much. Here’s why I recommend this alternative for you.
- You are free to promote anything you want – you can have your own business, you can start from scratch.
- You don’t need any inventory of products to sell, you simply promote other people products. You will learn everything you need to know about SEO and affiliate marketing.
- All you need is your computer with internet connection – so you have freedom to work from home or work from anywhere. We set realistic expectations.
- Your efforts are cumulative – as you put in consistent effort your traffic and income grows and you can continue to earn. You don’t need to rely on paid traffic.
- Your earning potential is unlimited, many people make full-time incomes and you can also outsource and scale your online business
- Even complete beginners can do it with the right training – here’s what I recommend and I can personally mentor you to help you earn.
My advice is to invest your precious time into building your own real online business to give you better income that you can rely on longer term, rather than settling for programs that can’t reward you enough for your efforts.
